Beach Wedding Dresses
Choosing a bridal gown can be one of the more difficult parts of planning your wedding. The venue you choose for your wedding day will help determine the formality of your bridal gown and attire. For example, you will not want to wear a ball gown with a cathedral length train to your morning wedding ceremony & late morning brunch. Brides and Grooms are more often choosing alternative sites for their wedding ceremony and receptions. From cruise ships to destination weddings in Tahiti, the possibilities are endless. One of the more popular locations for couples in the 21st century are the endless array of the world’s beaches! From the sunny California beaches of San Diego to the exotic beaches of Aruba and The Bahamas, beach weddings are quickly becoming the norm for modern couples looking for an added flair for their wedding.
Often time’s beach weddings are smaller events with fewer guests, but more details in the decorations such as flowers and centerpieces. Many couples take advantage of the relaxed environment that the beach offers and have more casual events, requesting guests to wear casual attire including khakis and polo shits. The bride’s attire should be more formal than her guests, but she should be careful not to be over dressed.
Many brides will choose a rather simple gown for their beach wedding. A popular choice in fabric is Chiffon because the gown will be more flowing and natural looking. Oftentimes brides will choose a floor length or T-length gown for their beach wedding. It is also appropriate to have a sweep train, just remember it will be in the sand & to keep that in mind when choosing your gown.
Many designers offer special lines of gowns that are created with beach weddings in mind. These collections are often referred to as “Destination” lines, or have something to do with the idea of traveling (because many destination weddings are on beaches). You should also be sure to look through your favorite designers’ informal collection, as many of the informal gowns are very appropriate for beach weddings.
Brides are also now deviating from the “normal” wedding gowns for weddings in all types of locations, but especially for beach weddings. Many brides are choosing to wear a simple sun-dress (of any length) from a local department store. Another alternative that brides are exploring is ordering a bridesmaid dress in white or ivory (or any other color, pink, blue, green, etc.) and wearing that as their bridal gown. Not only is the formality more appropriate for a beach wedding, but this is also a great way to save money. Beware though, some designers charge additional for bridesmaid dresses ordered in White or Ivory.
