Maternity Wedding Dresses
Brides come in all shapes and sizes, including the beautifully pregnant bride! You may think that you won’t be able to find something elegant and tasteful for your wedding if you will be pregnant at the time of the nuptials, but you are wrong! There are many choices available for brides in need of a maternity wedding dress.
You will not want to limit yourself in any way; you are the bride! Many pregnant brides feel that wearing white may not be “proper” but times have changed! We have brides wearing all sorts of colors for their wedding gowns, so anyone can wear white for their wedding! Society says it is okay to wear white, but if you still feel odd, feel free to expand the color palate that you choose from. Look for pastel colored gown, or if you want, go for a brightly colored gown. You are the bride, these are your decisions to make, and you will want the gown to reflect your personality so choose whatever colors makes you happy.
You can now also find maternity wedding dresses in a wide variety of styles. Some brides choose an empire waist gown to de-emphasize their pregnancy, while others will choose a tight-fitting dress that shows off all the curves of their body. Maternity wedding dress designers offer a wide array of dresses from two piece designs, to knee length cocktail designs, the pregnant bride now has a lot to choose from!
Yet some pregnant brides still want their traditional wedding gown. One seamstress found a great solution for her bride who was to be 5 months pregnant at the wedding. Because they did not know how big she would be on the wedding day, the seamstress removed the zipper closure on the back of her gown and replaced it with a corset style lace-up back! This gave the bride the luxury of not having to have the gown altered before hand; she could just tie the corset as tight or loose as needed on her wedding date.
And what about your bridesmaids? Many brides have had that phone call from their bridesmaid letting them know that their friend is expecting, and could be 8 months pregnant at the wedding! Do not fear! There are again many options for helping your pregnant bridesmaid fit in with the other girls. Some designers, such as Watters & Watters and Eden Bridals offer maternity bridesmaid dresses to match their regular bridesmaid lines. You can also choose a gown with an empire waist. This is a great alternative for the pregnant bridesmaid because she is not certain what size gown she will need at the time of the wedding. An empire waist gives her a comfortable gown that will allow her to fit in at a variety of stages in her pregnancy. Other options include having the bridesmaid pick out something that she will comfortable from the same designer in the same fabric (this way her dress will match the color of the other girls, but she can still feel beautiful and comfortable standing up for you). Or, many designers will sell additional fabric. Check with where you ordered the bridesmaid dresses on if you can order a few extra yards so that a seamstress can make the perfect gown for her.
Embrace pregnancy! It is a miracle that should be celebrated, and just because you may need a maternity wedding dress does not mean that you must compromise your style or individuality!
